With the campaign against burglary, the police in NRW are putting a stop to the perpetrators - with the help of citizens.
The core of the campaign is the threefold bar against burglars:
- Watch out for suspicious persons/situations
- In case of suspicion, call the police immediately on 110
- Get neutral and free advice on burglary protection from your police
Secure your home - so that it stays your home! Every citizen can make an active contribution to preventing burglaries by paying attention. A culture of looking and acting makes it more difficult for the perpetrators.
Anyone who keeps an eye on their surroundings and neighborhood and notices suspicious persons or events should inform the police immediately by calling 110.
One thing is certain:
Burglars break in at any time of day. It often happens during the day when the residents are "only away for a moment". In the winter months in particular, they take advantage of the early darkness. The perpetrators are in a hurry and take advantage of every opportunity.
When police and citizens work together, burglars can be stopped.

Living safely together! - Burglary protection in apartment buildings
In order to sustainably improve security in apartment buildings and their surroundings, recommendations for crime-preventive urban planning and building design must be implemented in addition to the security equipment of doors and windows. These are aimed at positively influencing the social structure, such as cohesion and togetherness in the neighborhood and interest in the residential environment. This also increases social control and the willingness to act as a witness. In addition, structural and spatial design measures are intended to reduce factors that encourage the commission of crimes.
The LKA has published information in the document "Living safely together! - Gebäudeausstattung von Mehrfamilienhäusern" (Building equipment for apartment buildings), which contains information for owners and property managers on burglary protection. You can also download an information board with tips for residents of apartment buildings. This can either be used as a "sign" in stairwells or distributed as a flyer. Use the funding from the state of NRW
Since January 2014, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has been promoting structural measures to protect against burglary and improve security in and around buildings with low-interest loans as part of its investment support for existing buildings. Information for victims of a burglary
If you or someone close to you has been the victim of a burglary, you can find information on the procedure and tips in the victim brochure. You can obtain the addresses of important contact persons from the Crime Prevention and Victim Protection Department of your local police authority.
If you have been burgled and items have been lost, the police and insurance company will need a precise description of the stolen items. Mark your valuables clearly and make a note of the most important data.

Network "Home safe"
Together against burglars - "Zuhause sicher" network supports "Riegel vor!" campaign The "Zuhause sicher" network was launched in 2005 on the initiative of various police authorities.
The purpose of the registered, non-profit association under the patronage of the NRW Minister of the Interior is to inform citizens about the importance and practical possibilities of burglary and fire protection.
Numerous district police authorities in the state of NRW cooperate with the local protection communities of the network, in which the police, trades, local authorities and companies from industry, services and the insurance sector work together.
